We’re Planning to Tour in 2025
We are excited to announce that we’re planning to take “Don’t Write Me Off” on tour in early 2025. Schools interested in booking a performance can reach out to us directly by emailing us at info@activelyseeking.co.uk.
This is a fantastic opportunity to engage students with powerful, relevant themes and encourage important conversations.
Don’t Write Me Off: Research and Development, 2024
“Don’t Write Me Off” R&D was supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. We launched our three-week research and development project, collaborating with young black boys and girls and professional artists to co-create a powerful new play titled “Don’t Write Me Off.” This project provided an opportunity to amplify the voices of black boys, sparking dialogue and promoting healing through the arts.
“Don’t Write Me Off” follows JUBAL and NM as they navigate complex personal and social challenges. The story begins with the boys discussing life, faith, and dreams. JUBAL’s father, though caring, has a strained relationship with NM. At school, the boys face teacher biases, leading to conflict. A pivotal moment occurs when NM asks JUBAL to hold a knife, resulting in JUBAL’s arrest. A heated argument with his father after his release reveals deep familial pressures. NM’s difficult home life with his alcoholic mother is also explored. The climax unfolds with a confrontation outside school, highlighting their diverging paths and resulting in police intervention and suspensions. This play addresses themes of friendship, dreams, faith, and societal challenges, providing a powerful portrayal of youth life today.
West End Theatre Trip for Our Young K.I.N.G.’s
Through the incredible generosity of our community on GoFundMe, we were thrilled to take our boys to watch “For Black Boys” in the West End. This outing was not just about entertainment—it was about expanding horizons, igniting passions, and fostering a love for the arts. “For Black Boys” is an award-winning production that addresses many of the themes our boys face, so it was only fitting that we took them to the West End for a culturally rich experience. The donations enabled us to purchase 30 tickets and hire a coach.
